Navratri to Diwali 2026: The Festive Bedroom Refresh Guide

Live Beautifully. Sleep Royally.

There is a particular feeling that settles over an Indian home in October. The monsoon has packed its bags, the evenings turn soft and golden, and the family calendar fills up with pujas, garba nights and visiting relatives. This year the festive season arrives a little later than usual: Sharad Navratri begins on Sunday, 11 October 2026, Dussehra falls on 20 October, and Diwali runs from Dhanteras on 6 November to Bhai Dooj on 10 November, with Lakshmi Puja on Sunday, 8 November.

That gives you about five weeks, which is enough to refresh your bedroom calmly, one step at a time. Here is our three-phase plan.

Why October is the right month to refresh your bedding

  • Monsoon moisture lingers. After months of humidity, sheets, pillows and stored razais can hold on to a musty smell. A proper wash-and-air cycle now resets the whole bedroom.
  • Days are warm, nights are cooler. In much of North and West India, afternoons still need the fan while nights start to call for a light cover. You need breathable layers, not a heavy winter quilt.
  • Guests are coming. Between Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali, the spare room turns into a guest room more often than at any other time of year.

Phase 1 (1–10 October): The post-monsoon reset

Before you add anything new, clear the stage. Think of it as the bedding version of the traditional Diwali safai.

Wash, air and sort

  • Wash every sheet and pillow cover in cold water with a mild detergent, and dry them in the shade on a breezy day. Harsh direct sun fades block-print colours faster.
  • Take pillows, dohars and quilts out of storage and air them for a few hours before use.
  • Wash your mattress protector too, so the mattress starts the season fresh.

Follow the rule of three

For every bed you use regularly, keep three sets of sheets: one on the bed, one in the wash, and one folded and ready for guests. If a sheet has thinned, pilled or faded beyond love, retire it now.

Phase 2 (11–20 October): Navratri colour and comfort

Navratri is a celebration of colour, and your bedroom can join in without looking busy. Our simple formula: one hero print, one calm base, one textured accent.

Choose your hero print

A hand-block printed bedsheet does the heavy lifting. Warm golds, saffron and crimson feel naturally festive against cream walls and wooden furniture.

Divine Swarna Arch king size hand-block printed pure cotton bedsheet, white with mustard-gold and grey arch motifs and a mustard border, on a bed with matching pillow covers

  • The Divine Swarna Arch King Size Pure Cotton Bedsheet (₹1,699) has mustard-gold arch motifs on a crisp white ground that feel made for a Lakshmi Puja morning. It is hand-block printed in Jaipur on 100% pure cotton, measures 108 × 108 inches, and comes with 2 matching pillow covers.
  • For a taller mattress or a larger master bed, the Scarlet Diamond Jaali Hand-Block Printed Super King Bedsheet (₹1,799) brings deep crimson and earthy brown jaali patterns inspired by palace jharokhas. At 120 × 120 inches, it drapes generously on every side.

Balance it with a calm base

Let the print breathe. Pair it with plain white or cream pillows and keep the rest of the room simple: a brass diya on the side table and a few marigolds in a small bowl.

Add a textured accent

Cushion covers carry your festive palette from the bedroom to the living room, where most Navratri evenings actually happen. Our hand-block cushion covers are 16 × 16 inch pure cotton covers: a set of 2 for ₹599, a set of 3 for ₹799 or a set of 5 for ₹999. Mix two prints from the same colour family for a collected, heritage look.

Phase 3 (21 October–8 November): Diwali-ready and guest-ready

After Dussehra, the focus shifts to hosting, and to nights that are getting noticeably cooler.

The October layer: a reversible dohar

A dohar is the perfect transitional cover: light enough for a warm night under the fan, cosy enough for the first cool evenings. Our best-selling White & Camel Ultrasoft Reversible Dohar costs ₹1,249 for the single (55 × 88 inches) and ₹1,549 for the double (85 × 98 inches). It has a cotton fabric outer with a 100 GSM poly-fibre filling, and being reversible, it gives you two looks in one. Keep a folded spare in the guest room so visitors can adjust their own comfort.

The November layer: a pure cotton razai

By Diwali week, many cities need something a little warmer. A mulmul cotton quilt gives you that warmth without the weight of a winter razai.

Royal Elephant Heritage Patchwork reversible pure cotton mulmul quilt with block-printed elephant and floral patches in peach, grey-blue and cream, spread on a double bed

The Royal Elephant Heritage Patchwork Reversible Pure Cotton Quilt (₹2,499) is made from soft mulmul with 100% pure cotton filling and measures 90 × 100 inches. Its patchwork of elephants and florals suits the festive mood, and it stays breathable until real winter arrives.

The showpiece: a complete Luxe suite

If one room deserves a full transformation this Diwali, make it the master bedroom, or gift it to someone setting up a new home. The Tuscan Garden Rose & Olive Block-Printed Bedspread & Sheet Suite (₹6,999) includes a quilted bedspread (90 × 100 inches), a matching pure cotton bedsheet (108 × 108 inches), 2 matching pillow covers and 2 matching quilted pillow covers: a layered, hotel-style bed in one purchase.

Caring for hand-block cotton through the festive rush

  • Wash separately the first few times, in cold water on a gentle cycle.
  • Never bleach. For small spills such as haldi or diya oil, blot gently (don't rub) and wash as soon as you can.
  • Dry in the shade and fold while slightly warm for crisp, ready-to-use sheets.
  • Celebrate small variations. Tiny shifts in a hand-printed motif are the signature of an artisan's hands, not flaws.

A gentle timeline: try to have new bedding at home by mid-October. That leaves time for a first wash before Navratri guests arrive. We offer free shipping above ₹999, so a bedsheet with a set of cushion covers is an easy way to refresh a room.

Frequently asked questions

Should I switch to a winter quilt in October?

Usually not yet. For most of India, a reversible dohar or a light mulmul cotton quilt is ideal for October and early November. Save heavier razais for December and January.

Which bedsheet size do I need for a king bed?

Our king size hand-block sheets are 108 × 108 inches, which suits a standard king mattress. For extra-thick mattresses or a generous drape, choose a super king sheet at 120 × 120 inches.

Is bedding a good Diwali gift?

Yes. It is useful, personal and lasts for years. A hand-block bedsheet, a set of cushion covers or a Luxe suite makes a thoughtful gift for newlyweds, a family moving house or your parents.

How do I keep hand-block prints from fading?

Wash in cold water with a mild detergent, avoid bleach, and dry in the shade. Our hand-block king sheets are pre-washed and colour-fasted, so gentle care keeps them vibrant for years.
